Improve Your Sleep with a Salt and Soda Bath

By Katherine Jones

Some nights, falling asleep or staying asleep can be a challenge. You may be cramming for exams, worrying yourself awake, or taking care of a young one. The next day, you are left feeling groggy and tired. Too many of these sleepless nights can harm your health.

Sleep is the human body’s restorative time. While you’re asleep, your body’s immune defense and repair system is most active. Your body is identifying what needs to be replenished in your system and identifying what abnormal cells need to be marked for destruction. When your body doesn’t get enough restorative sleep, you invite the abnormal cells in your body to continue to multiply.

To give your body the restorative sleep it needs, we encourage you to spend 30 minutes each night preparing yourself for a good night’s sleep. One of the best ways to spend those 30 minutes is by taking a salt and soda bath to help your body relax and eliminate toxins through your skin.

What you need:

  • ½ cup of Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate)
  • ½ cup of baking soda
  • Bathtub
  • Warm water

Bath Instructions:

  1. Fill your bathtub with warm water. The water is the right temperature when it leaves your skin pink, like a baby. If you test the water and your hand is red, then the water is too hot.
  2. Combine ½ cup of Epsom salts with ½ cup of baking soda. Add any additional essential oils of your choice. Stir into tub.
  3. Soak for 20 minutes and enjoy!
